Distilling a new form of gastronomy
La Destilateca is a space where the essence of ingredients is extracted and bottled in small and limited editions. Carles Bonnin is the master distiller and cocktail maker behind it.
We worked with him side by side and kept him involved from the very first moment he came to us and until the project was ready to be launched. Our challenge was to reflect his fearsome, passionate and direct personality while creating and encapsulating the notion of “Drinks with spirit”. A work philosophy that venerates the product, the need to narrate a story through its ingredients and, with its resulting creations, has the boldness to trigger sensations, emotions and memories.
The design of the logotype was made in collaboration with lettering expert, Gina Serret. A distinctive signature allows the brand to show its humane and personal character. Inspired by a marker pen, its stroke also manifests the firm and decisive attitude of his creator Carles Bonnin.
Typographies inspired by typewriters and moveable type printing
We replicated the working methods of craftsman Carles Bonnin through the world of moveable type printing and typewriters. By using intentional errors like the rotation of paragraphs, the misalignment of words, or the use of numbers instead of letters, we were able to reproduce and embed these characteristics.
Packaging that takes us back to the industrial style of the mid-20th century
The bottle brings to mind the old apothecaries while the label conveys the industrial style of the artisan distilleries of the mid-20th century. This was achieved by using lines, writing patterns and boxes. To present the bottle’s uniqueness and highlight that they are limited editions, some sections of the label were spared so that Carles Bonnin could fill them in personally.
Reflecting boldness through photography
Consistent with the colours chosen to convey the brand’s strong character, we defined a photographic style that focused on contrast to highlight shadows and dark tones through the lens of Photographer, Israel Fernández.
Connecting creations to gastronomy lovers through E-commerce
We designed a website that works like a diary. A web that gathers all the stories and collaborations that take place in La Destilateca between Carles Bonnin and other gastronomers and professionals. It also works as an e-commerce platform bringing limited editions of distillates, spirits and hydrolates closer to the public.
